The Claim: A supposed secret NASA program called "Project Anchor" leaked documents revealing Earth will lose gravity for 7.3 seconds on August 12, 2026 at 14:33 UTC (9:33 AM ET). The theory claims 40–60 million people would die as unsecured objects, vehicles, and people float up 15–20 meters before gravity snaps back and everything crashes down.

What NASA Actually Says: It's completely false. A NASA spokesperson stated explicitly: "The Earth will not lose gravity on Aug. 12, 2026. Earth's gravity is determined by its mass. The only way for the Earth to lose gravity would be for the Earth system... to lose mass." 

Where It Came From: The rumor appears to have originated from a social media account (@mr_danya_of) in late 2025 that posted fictional/AI-generated stories. No leaked NASA document has ever surfaced, and there's zero record of a "Project Anchor" program. 

What Is Real on August 12: It's actually a stacked astronomical day — a total solar eclipse (visible across Greenland, Iceland, Spain, Portugal, and northern Russia), the peak of the Perseid meteor shower under a New Moon (optimal viewing conditions), and a six-planet morning alignment (Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, Uranus, Saturn, Neptune). 

The gravity blackout theory latched onto the real eclipse date to make itself sound credible. The eclipse has no effect on Earth's gravity whatsoever — eclipses are just the Moon passing between Earth and the Sun. 

So no need to strap yourself to anything heavy. It's just another internet hoax riding the wave of a genuinely cool skywatching day.
